Dare BOC meets Monday

The Dare County Board of Commissioners meets Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at 9 a.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room, located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Dr. in Manteo.

On the agenda are two public hearings. First is a zoning map and text amendment for the Martin’s Point Commercial District.

The second hearing is for 2023 Supplement to the Dare County Code of Ordinances, which brings the code up-to-date with all actions taken since January 2023.

The Kenrick Albaugh Storage Warehouse Group Development special use permit is up for approval.

A request to close a portion of the G.A. Kohler Court Right of Way is before the board. The road runs off America Drive in Rodanthe. The applicant wants the road closed so that “ocean front property owners have the ability to move their houses westward on their lots to mitigate damages from erosion and storm events.” The request is to set a hearing for Dec. 4, 2023.

Dare County Tourism Board brings to the commissioners Restricted Fund grants to three non-profits and three incorporated towns. The six grants total $1,589,389.

The Dare County SPCA is requesting an amendment to the Dare County Code of Ordinances to permit the animal shelter to hold strays for a minimum of 72 hours or three days. The current time period is eight days. According to information presented, “animals will be held longer if there are signs of ownership or for other reasons.” The item form continues, “this change is consistent with the state regulations and other shelters.” The request is to set a hearing for Dec. 4, 2023.
