REALTOR® Gray Berryman, with Carolina Designs Realty, was celebrated at the Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) annual membership meeting as the recipient of the Kim Endre Good Neighbor Award. This award, sponsored by Steven Gillis State Farm & Rocket Mortgage, honors a REALTOR® who has made a positive difference in the community through their volunteerism.

Berryman has been involved in various community projects throughout the Outer Banks, such as serving on the Southern Shores Planning Board and as the tourism director for OBAR on the Dare County Tourism Board; serving as a member of the OBX Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Coalition, which promotes safe and responsible practices for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists on the Outer Banks; establishing the Coastal Campership Fund through the Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF), which offers grants to nonprofit organizations for camperships that help local youth with financial need to attend camping programs that focus on outdoor recreational skills, character and leadership development.

Berryman’s main passion is his family and his role as scoutmaster of Troop 117 since 2013. He has led Troop 117 to grow and nurture young leaders while instilling valuable life skills in its members. He has mentored countless scouts, trained new adult leaders and formed a girl’s troop this year to foster essential life skills, leadership qualities and a love for the outdoors.

He is grateful for the recognition and said, “The great thing is that there are so many good, smart, and strong kids in our community, and we are lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers, coaches, and teachers. I am really excited and optimistic about our future!”

OBAR president Natalie Painter praised Berryman and said, “Whether it is through his work on planning, tourism, outdoor recreation, or scouting, Gray Berryman defines what it means to be a responsible and dedicated community member and a great REALTOR®.”
