Swim teams compete in several meets

Dare County high school swim teams competed in several meets throughout December and early January.

At the meet on Jan. 5, First Flight, Perquimans, Currituck, John A. Holmes, Camden, Nern, NEAAAT and Pasquotank competed at the Albemarle Family YMCA in Elizabeth City. The girls’ team scores were: First Flight – 153, Perquimans – 90, Currituck – 89, John A. Holmes – 53, Camden – 25, Nern – 11 and Pasquotank – 10. The boys’ team scores were: First Flight – 148, Camden – 86, Currituck – 84, Pasquotank – 36, John A Holmes – 19, Nern – 17, Perquimans – 14 and NEAAAT – 6.

First place winners at the meet were Allison Roper (FF) 200 freestyle; Logan Schiffbauer (PAS) 200 freestyle; Catherine Howell (PER) 200 IM and 100 breaststroke; Ethan Barclift (CAM) 200 IM; Liza Gillam (CAM) 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Merrick Shumaker (FF) 50 freestyle; Kira Walters (FF) 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; Josh Mouser (FF) 100 butterfly and 400 freestyle; Shawn Hoff (CAM) 100 freestyle; Hailey Bass (PER) 400 freestyle; Roman Keeling (CAM) 100 backstroke; Noah Savage (FF) 100 breaststroke.

The First Flight girls won all three relays and the boys won the 200 medley and the 400 freestyle relay, with Currituck winning the 200 freestyle relay.

The conference meet is Jan. 19 in the Albemarle Family YMCA in Elizabeth City.
