Kill Devil Hills, NC – Joan Katherine Tracy, 84, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on May 23, 1939, in Trenton, NJ, to the late Aloysius Neuhaus and Gudrun Karlsen Neuhaus.

Joan was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She had a passion for interior decorating and was known for creating a warm and welcoming home. In her younger years, Joan was an avid bowler and threw outrageous pool parties with her husband and dear friends. She was a member of the Liberty Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary in Neptune, NJ. In her free time, she loved to watch her cop dramas, read mystery novels, and had a special love for “The Lion King.” Joan always savored a scalding hot cup of coffee and reading the local newspaper. She got to fulfill her biggest bucket list item by cruising the Caribbean this past spring.

Joan enjoyed a fulfilling career in the food service industry, spanning over 40 years. She took pride in her work and found joy in making people happy. She fondly reminisced about her time at Mort’s Port in Neptune, NJ, and the Apollo Diner in Farmingdale, NJ. Later in life, when she moved to the Outer Banks, she brought smiles to people’s faces as she delivered flowers for Nags Head Florist.

Cherishing her memory are, her beloved husband, Robert Tracy, whom she married on June 22, 1968, after meeting at a Valentine’s dance at the Liberty Fire Department. Her children: Duke (Anita), Wendy (Paul), Lew (Sandi), Sean (Rachael), Keli (Antione). Her grandchildren: Bobbi-Jo (Brandon), Larissa (James), Anthony (Alisha), Kimberlee “KJ Honeybear” (Alex), Markus (Kyleen), Kane (Faith), Desiree, William, Angela, Alexia, Ariel “Peanut,” Aaron, Dan (Julie), Caitlin, and her great-grandchildren: James “Tre,” Austin, Jordan, D’Andra, Joey, Ciara, Ellie, Logan.

She was preceded in death by parents: Aloysius and Gudrun, siblings: Barbara, Alois “Butch” and Theresa, great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Carter, Sophia and her best friend Brenda.

Joan found solace in her faith and was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Asbury, NJ, and Grace Lutheran Church in Nags Head, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church in Nags Head, NC. Memorial donations may be made in Joan’s name to the Outer Banks SPCA at https://www.obxspca.org/donate/.

Joan Tracy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who know and love her.
