First Flight High School students awarded certificates, checks for VFW audio essay contest

First Flight High School students Kirra, Chessa and Maia who placed first, second and third, respectively, in the Veterans of Foreign Wars audio essay contest. Richard Probst of Outer Banks VFW Post 10950 presented certificates and award checks for the audio essays the students submitted.
This year’s prompt in the annual competition was, “What are the greatest attributes of our democracy?”
Kirra’s essay also placed first in the district competition, and her essay is one of 16 finalists in the North Carolina competition. The winning entry for the state will advance to the national competition, which has a top scholarship prize of $30,000.
“Congrats to our three winners, who are members of the newspaper and yearbook staffs!” stated FFHS.
