Aquatic buffet at Oregon Inlet

Feeding on aquatic invertebrates and insects living in the moss, a least sandpiper (Calidris minutilla), on the left, and a dunlin (Calidris alpina) share a space to feed. The least sandpiper is the world’s smallest shorebird. This aquatic buffet is on the rock jetty at Oregon Inlet on Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge.
