First Flight High School students named finalists in NCDPI Junior Chef Competition

The Junior Chef team from First Flight High School is one of the three finalists in the Junior Chef Competition presented by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

The team members are all juniors at First Flight High School and include Tim Eline, Abby Morales, Amerie Mickens and Cooper Hills.

The recipe the team members submitted and will prepare for the competition is chicken cordon bleu with orzo rice and a mushroom demi-glace.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the North Carolina Junior Chef Competition was created to inspire the next generation of culinary professionals, stimulate interest in locally produced agriculture, increase participation in School Nutrition Programs and encourage healthy eating habits. The competition seeks student created and approved recipes for school meals. Additionally, the competition will recognize students for their ability to work as members of a team to demonstrate valuable skills in recipe development, food preparation, marketing, public presentation, organization and local food systems.
