Manteo High School (MHS) has announced the hiring of Timmy Charity as its new head football coach.
As a former student and graduate of MHS, Charity was a standout athlete, excelling in track, basketball and football. While in high school, Charity was the defensive leader of the football team and led the team to a regional title and state championship appearance in 2006.
His success and accomplishments on and off the field earned him a full football scholarship to Division I North Carolina Central University, where he played center and right guard for the Eagles from 2007 to 2010.
Following his collegiate career, Charity returned home and played several years of semi-professional football in Wilson and Goldsboro for the Carolina Ducks, East Carolina Rams and East Carolina Phantoms from 2013-2020. During this period, he garnered recognition as a team captain and was selected as an all-star of the league for two years.
Charity’s dedication to coaching emerged early in his career when he began assisting with Dare County Parks and Recreation (DCPR), actively nurturing the development of young athletes in the community through coaching, refereeing and volunteering.
From 2013 to 2016, Charity served as the Manteo Middle School head football coach and as an assistant basketball coach at MHS. From 2016 to 2018, he assumed the role of head JV football coach at Manteo High School. His dedication and coaching abilities led to his appointment as the defensive coordinator for the varsity football team in 2019, eventually leading to his recent promotion to the position of head coach. Charity has also held the position of head varsity men’s basketball coach at MHS since 2018.
Players, parents and members of the community are encouraged to attend a meet and greet event to welcome Charity, set for Monday, February 26 from 6-8 p.m. at the Dare County Shrine Club, located at 111 Old NC Hwy. 345 on Roanoke Island, just north of Manteo.
