David Gary Flanigan was born in Norfolk, VA on April 27, 1946 to Clarence (Mike) and Doris Bazemore Flanigan. He passed away in Nags Head, NC on March 8, 2024. He attended High School at James Barry Robinson Catholic School for boys where he was on the championship basketball team. He then went on to play basketball at Ferrum College, received his Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Old Dominion University and his degree of Education Specialist from George Washington University.

David dedicated 37 years to the Virginia Beach School System as a teacher, coach and administrator. He and his beloved wife of 30 years Jean both retired and moved to the Outer Banks of NC in 2007 to enjoy their passion for fishing and golf. Unfortunately, his time was cut short due to Parkinsons disease. He is survived by his mother, wife and daughters: Charlotte Terry and Libby Flanigan (Mike), stepsons: Wes Highfill (Laura) and Ryan Highfill (Laura) and grandchildren: Connor and Hunter Terry, Finn Matthies, Madeleine and Ryan Highfill and Mason and Rylan Highfill.

He will be dearly missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association or the Parkinsons Foundation. Please share memories and condolences with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
