Deputies with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched on March 8, 2024 at 4:07 p.m. to the 1300 block of Lynch’s Corner Road in Elizabeth City in reference to an ATV (side-by-side) crash resulting in a fatality, according to a PCSO news release.
“Information relayed to deputies from Central Communications included that deputies were responding to an ATV crash in the area involving an 11-year-old child and that the child was possibly deceased. The crash was reported to have occurred in a field behind the 1300-block of Lynch’s Corner Rd.,” stated the release.
When deputies arrived on scene, they were directed to a location where other first responders – including the Newland Volunteer Fire Department and Pasquotank-Camden EMS – had already arrived.
Deputies learned through the course of this investigation that the juvenile was operating an ATV and was last seen operating the ATV by himself at around 3 p.m. that same day. At around 4 p.m., the juvenile’s family began looking for him since he had been gone for an hour. The family located the juvenile quickly and called for help when they found the juvenile had been involved in a crash, according to the release.
“The investigation into the crash revealed that the ATV (Side by Side) operated by the juvenile had rolled onto its left side pinning the juvenile underneath the ATV. The juvenile was not wearing a helmet or using the equipped seatbelt on the ATV (Side by Side). The juvenile was freed from underneath the ATV and The Pasquotank-Camden EMS accessed the juvenile, but the juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene,” stated the release.
“The Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to the family during this difficult time.”
