Cape Hatteras wins two on the baseball diamond

Cape Hatteras Secondary’s baseball team racked up two wins Friday, March 15, 2024, in a doubleheader against Albemarle School, a private school in Elizabeth City.
At the end the fifth inning in the first game, the score was tied at 9. Cape Hatteras playing as visitors scored two runs while Albemarle pushed across one run. The final score was 11 to 10.
In that first game, Preston Stowe knocked an inside-the-park homer in the third inning. He scored in the sixth inning too.
Cape Hatteras gathered six hits to Albemarle’s five hits. Cape Hatteras gained first base on 11 walks and struck out 10 times.
Pitching for Cape Hatteras were Jesus Garcia for 1.2 innings; Trae Wyatt for 1 inning, Liam Van Druten for 1 inning and Landen Sonnier for 2.1 innings.
Pitching for Albemarle were Ethan Hassell for 1.2 innings and Jay Borg for 4.1 innings. Borg hurled four strikeouts while Hassell had one.
In game two, Cape Hatteras won 12 to 1.
The Hurricanes scored five runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and five more in the third. Joey Gavetti powered a homer. Pitching for four innings was Wyatt. Gavetti finished the game.
Cape Hatteras next plays at home against Mattamuskeet on March 26, 2024 at 5 p.m. After spring break, Cape Hatteras will have seven straight home games. Senior night and family picture night will be held April 23, when Cape Hatteras plays against Columbia.
