To the Editor

OBX Room In The Inn just finished its fourth month of the 2023-2024 season of food, shelter, and clothing for those in need. In total for the first four months, 921 room nights and 2763 meals have been provided. As the weather warms our numbers tend to slow down as our guests start to find other places to shelter after April. It is our goal to become a year around shelter, but until then we will continue to support our guests at our intake center year around.

In February, our average age for the month is 52 years. We have had fewer younger guests and an 80-year-old who brings up our average. Year-to-date our average age is 48.

We were thankful for the Division of Social Services who held a food drive and delivered a van full of food to us. We received a check from the Servant Ministry at All Saints’ Episcopal Church from the proceeds of Holly Days 2023 event. The Aerie #4506 Fraternal Order of Eagles presented us with the proceeds from their holiday t-shirt sales. The Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament made us a recipient of a large grant from their event. We have received numerous donations of food from events, and we are very grateful for all those donations.

I can’t forget the Evans Family Fund, ORCA Wealth Management and Jane Webster for sponsoring our upcoming Seaside Soiree Silent and Live Auction April 21 at the Kitty Hawk Pier. The Kitty Hawk Rotary purchased two tables to support the event. Join us for a great time! More to come about all the wonderful, donated items or the auction. Thank you to every business/person who is helping to make this event possible.
We were blessed no question, but we can’t forget those who give monthly and who donate food, clothing, shoes, cleaning supplies and needed personal items every month. They keep us going!

A special thank you to Liberty Christian, Manteo Baptist, Manteo First Assembly, All Saints Episcopal, and Mount Olivet Church for blessing those in need and OBX Room In The Inn in February with their support.

Thank you to everyone for supporting those in need and for partnering with Room In The Inn! It truly takes a village!
