Throughout the course of her life, Lois had various hobbies and passions. Her interest in horses led her to one of her first loves, Penny, a rambunctious horse whose stubbornness was only matched by Lois’. In another chapter, her companion was a golden retriever lovingly named “Shara”, as she obliged to share the dog with her nieces and nephew. She loved photography and took numerous photos of family, friends, and landscapes. Lois also painted numerous beachscapes and learned the art of stained glass.

Lois was a lifelong attendee of Bethany Church of Wanchese. She was raised in the church, then raised her own family there also. She enjoyed the fellowship of the church throughout the course of her life.

Lois dedicated thirty years of her career to the children of Dare County by serving as the Media Coordinator at Manteo Elementary School. She was a proud graduate of the 1970 Manteo High School class. Lois then went on to pursue both a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Certificate from East Carolina University.

Shortly after retiring from Dare County Schools, she dedicated several years to the care of her mother which she did with an incredible amount of responsibility and grace.

Her favorite chapter in life began with the birth of her granddaughter Kate. She enjoyed and thrived in her role as “Mom-mom”, which Kate had often shortened to “Mom”. Lois was the center of Kate’s life, providing around the clock care as needed, and abundant amounts of fun and love. Lois could often be found chauffeuring Kate to her various activities, arranging playdates with friends, and cheering her on in whatever Kate was doing.

Lois will be remembered for her kindness, quick wit, dedication, and unwavering love for her family and loved ones. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
