National Volunteer Week is coming April 21-27. It’s a great time to think about volunteering.
Dare County has an online page listing volunteer opportunities. The page, darenc.gov/volunteers, lists the following agencies and programs: Airport Museum, Animal Shelter, Friends of Youth, Home Delivered Meals, Outer Banks Senior Games, Parks and Recreation and Special Olympics.
To serve on a Dare County advisory board, committee or commission, an application must be filled out with three choices selected. Go to darenc.gov and click Dare County Board of Commissioners for Advisory Boards and Committees.
On Hatteras Island, all fire departments are staffed by volunteers. Show up on Monday night at stations in Frisco, Buxton, Avon and at Chicamacomico Banks (Rodanthe and Salvo) and on Tuesday nights in Hatteras. Introduce yourself and say “I want to help.”
