Talented student musicians from Dare County delivered outstanding performances at the regional Music Performance Adjudication, earning impressive ratings and recognition for their musical talents.

The event, held from March 19-21, was hosted by the North Carolina Bandmasters Association and welcomed music programs from across the eastern district to perform in the Martin County Auditorium in Williamston. During the adjudication, secondary bands performed in front of expert judges and were evaluated on their performance and musical technicalities. Bands then received feedback to help them improve and develop their skills.

Manteo Middle School’s band, led by d’Andrea Hinkle, and Cape Hatteras Secondary’s band, under the direction of Sean McCroskey, delivered exceptional performances, earning superior ratings from the judges – the highest rating possible.

First Flight Middle School’s band, under the direction of Suzanne Blackstock, also impressed the judges and received an excellent rating for their extraordinary performances.

Although First Flight High School’s band did not participate this year, the school’s strings orchestra, led by Bob Ebert, participated in the Music Performance Adjudication for orchestra groups at East Chapel Hill High School. Their exceptional performance also earned them a superior rating with an overall score of 90.6.

“Dare County Schools congratulates all of the student musicians, band directors, and supporting staff for their hard work and achievements,” noted a DCS news release.

“As you can see from each of the ratings our music programs received, Dare County Schools has extremely high caliber music programs throughout our district. These ratings are directly related to the time and efforts of our dedicated students and staff. We are tremendously proud of our students and each of our staff members that put so much into leading these outstanding programs. Congratulations on your performances and recognition,” stated Dare County Schools Superintendent Steve Basnight.

The Music Performance Adjudication is hosted by North Carolina Bandmasters Association. The eastern district features schools located from Interstate 95 to the coast. The association’s mission is to advance the cause and development of school band programs in eastern North Carolina.
