The week of June 3-9, residents and visitors in northeast North Carolina and along the Outer Banks are invited to take part in Food Bank of the Albemarle’s “Dine Out to Help Out.” The annual fundraising event is made possible by the support of participating restaurants across the Food Bank’s 15-county service area.

“The funds raised through this hunger-relief initiative will help provide nutritious meals to our neighbors across our region,” said Liz Reasoner, executive director of Food Bank of the Albemarle. “We encourage patrons to thank their server and restaurant during the week of June 3rd  – 9th, for their support of Food Bank of the Albemarle through this incredible event.”

According to the latest data from Feeding America’s Annual “Map the Meal Gap” study, food insecurity in the northeast North Carolina region has spiked significantly. The number of food-insecure neighbors has increased from 36,000 to more than 43,000 (14.7% of the population, one in seven people). “The study also included an alarming increase in childhood hunger, with one in four children,” stated a Food Bank of the Albemarle news release.

Each participating restaurant has agreed to donate a percentage of the revenue generated on one day of their choosing during the week of June 3–9. All proceeds raised through this fundraising event benefit the Food Bank of the Albemarle in support of hunger relief programs across the region.

New restaurants are added weekly. Visit the Food Bank’s website at afoodbank.org for the latest updates. For more information, please contact Brian Gray, communications and volunteer manager, at 252-335-4035, ext. 113 or via email at brgray@afoodbank.org.
