The Kill Devil Hills Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on June 14, 2024 at around 1:08 a.m. on US 158 (South Croatan Highway) near Ocean Acres Drive. The collision resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
“The preliminary investigation by the Kill Devil Hills Police Department determined a 2021 Jeep Wrangler operated by 43-year-old Crystal Laskowski of Kill Devil Hills was traveling south on US 158 in the outside travel lane. Ashley Elizabeth Williams, a 20-year-old pedestrian of Williamsburg, Virginia ran eastward into the highway, directly into the path of the Jeep Wrangler,” stated a KDHPD news release. “Williams was struck by the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation further determined that neither speed nor alcohol were a factor for Laskowski.”
“The Kill Devil Hills Police Department extends our condolences to the Williams family. We thank the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, Dare County EMS, the Nags Head Police Department, and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and telecommunicators for their assistance,” the release continued.
