Commercial possession limit reduced for large coastal sharks

North Carolina Marine Fisheries Proclamation FF-7-2019 reduced the commercial possession limit of large coastal shark species (non-sandbar) from 25 to three per vessel per trip for the 2019 Atlantic coastal shark fishery.

The proclamation was effective for North Carolina Coastal Fishing Waters at 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, April 2.

Small coastal sharks are exempt from commercial harvest and size restrictions except for blacknose sharks, which cannot be harvested north of Kure Beach, N.C. South of Kure Beach, the limit is eight.

Pelagic Sharks are exempt from commercial harvest and size limits.

The proclamation also details recreation season, size and possession limits.
