College of The Albemarle (COA) has received the gift of a Chevy Remounted Taylor Made ambulance for use in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program.  The ambulance, given to the college by Dare County at a value of $15,000, will allow the EMS program to increase simulation opportunities for students in Dare and Currituck counties.

Upon receipt, the college will move forward with reconditioning the vehicle for simulation equipment. The outside of the ambulance will be revamped to include the COA logo.  Currently, the EMS program has an ambulance equipped for simulation for use in Chowan, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties. With the expansion of the EMS program to include an associate degree in the fall of 2019, the donated ambulance will provide additional opportunities for training across the service area.

“COA greatly appreciates this generous ambulance donation from Dare County and its EMS department,” Robin Harris, dean of Health Sciences and Wellness Programs, stated.  She continued, “EMS personnel are often the ones at someone’s side when they are in their moment of greatest need for quick thinking and critical life-saving interventions.  It is essential that we keep them well trained and prepared to meet the needs of all within our communities. Gifts such as this give us the capability to simulate and promote deeper learning for skills and clinical judgement in the important work they do.”
