Currituck claims home soccer win
On a chilly Wednesday afternoon at Currituck County High School, the Currituck County girls varsity soccer team scored early and scored often to defeat a visiting Manteo team 9-0. With five first half goals followed by four more in the second half, Currituck County evened its record at 2-2 with the non-conference home game win at Barco.
Earlier this season, Currituck opened with a 9-0 win over Northeastern High School on February 28 only to come up short in the next two non-conference matches. After suffering a 6-2 loss to White Oak on March 8 the Knights fell to Wilmington’s Ashley H.S. 6-1 the next day.
Currituck is now 1-0 in 2-A Northeastern Coastal Conference play.
Wednesday’s loss was the first of the season for Manteo, now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in 1-A Albemarle Athletic Conference action.
Manteo opened its 2019 season on March 6 with a win at Hertford defeating Perquimans County High School 9-0. In the next game against Camden County on March 11, the score was tied at 1-1 with about three minutes left to when a goal play put the Redskins up 2-1 over the visiting Bears.
