First Flight girls win at Currituck track and field meet

Kayla Folkes won three individual events Tuesday to help First Flight girls win an outdoor track and field meet at Barco.

Running on the Currituck County High School track, Folkes won the 400, 800 and 1600 meter events for three of the team’s six first place finishes. Teammates Avery Thiessen, Catalina Lokie and Leilany Hernandez were the other individual winners in the long jump, shot put and discus to put the Nighthawks ahead with 108 points to Manteo’s 76, Currituck County’s 75.5 and Hertford County’s 72.5.

Caroline Gay was a double event winner for Manteo with firsts in the 300 meter hurdles and pole vault.

Hertford County was the top boys team with 104 points followed by Currituck County with 96. Manteo boys were in third place with 79, First Flight fourth with 77, and Cape Hatteras finished fifth with 5.

Luke Haber picked up two individual firsts for Currituck County winning the high jump and 200 meters where the Knights swept the first eight places.
