TobyMac headlining show at festival park

The local Christian-based group “His Generation,” will be presenting national recording artist TobyMac and the American contemporary Christian music group NewSong in live concert performances 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo.

VIP tickets are already available at $100 each providing early 5:30 p.m. entrance into park, a 6-7 p.m. meet and greet with the artist, and front section seating with chair provided.

Priority tickets are $50 with early entrance into the park at 5:30 p.m. and a poster. General admission tickets are $25 each in advance, with a discount for groups of 20 or more. Children age two and under are free.

TobyMac, a Christian hip hop recording artist, music producer, songwriter and author, has charted at least 20 solo singles on Billboard’s Christian Songs list, sold more than 11 million albums, and has seven Grammy awards to his credit.

A former member of the vocal trio DC Talk, TobyMac performed with Michael Tait (now with the NewsBoys) and Kevin Max (once a lead singer for Audio Adrenaline. A 1987 hiatus by the group eventually led to TobyMac going solo in 2001. Not one to sit back and rely on past accomplishments, there are in fact indications he has no plans for even slowing down.

Just as during his days with DC Talk, TobyMac continues to use words of conviction, hope, empowerment and the redemption found in his faith in God to inspire audiences. Drawing directly from that faith and personal experience, his sixth studio album “This Is Not A Test” serves as an essential reminder that we only have one shot at life and debuted at No. 1 on the Christian Albums Chart, No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, and No. 3 on the Digital Albums Charts.

The concert’s opening band, NewSong, was been around since 1981. Originating as a 9-member church band for Morningside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia, the group has produced 17 number one singles, accumulated six Dove Award nominations and had five of the Top 100 Christian radio singles of the past decade. Among their best known songs are “Arise, My Love,” “Miracles,” and “Jesus To The World”.

NewSong is also the founder and host of the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, the largest annual Christian music tour in the U.S. and since the first Winter Jam in 1995 has each year included many of the most popular Contemporary Christian artists performances available.

NewSong frequently provides support for organizations that work with abandoned or underprivileged children, such as World Vision and since 2006 Holt International, a world leader in child adoption and child welfare.

Their song “The Christmas Shoes” spent a week in the top spot for Adult Contemporary Music in 2000 and inspired a novel written by Donna VanLiere which became a top-rated TV movie. Another well-known favorite by NewSong is “The Same God.”

There will be open lawn seating at Festival Park for priority and general admission tickets with chair rentals available at the park entrance for $5 each. No outside food, beverages or coolers will be allowed. Food vendors will be on site for food and snack cash purchases. There is no ATM at the park.

Parking for attendees will be available at Manteo Elementary and Manteo High Schools with a bus service providing transportation to and from Festival Park starting at 4:30 p.m.
