It’s cold out there! Snow falls in NC, low temperatures remain

The cold weather is not over. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory starting Thursday evening and running through 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Wind chills are forecast to drop as low as the upper single digits to lower teens.

On Thursday at 5:50 a.m., the wind chill was measured at 15 degrees at the Currituck Airport. At the Manteo Airport, the wind chill was in the lower 20s.

The National Weather Service warns that frostbite can occur if unprotected skin is exposed for more than 30 minutes at the low temperatures.

As to snow, Currituck Currituck snowfall started at noon Feb. 19. National Weather Service measured six to 11 inches throughout the county.

In Dare County, reports of snow totals included 3 to 4 inches in Duck, Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores, 2 to 4 inches in Kill Devil Hills and 1.8 inches in Manteo. No snow fell on Hatteras Island.

In Tyrrell County, the snowfall was reported at 2.5 inches in Columbia.

For mainland Hyde County, there were reports of sleet.

Snowfall in Pasquotank County was measured up to 6.5 inches in Elizabeth City; in Perquimans County, 6 inches; and in Camden County, 9 inches.
