First Flight hands Manteo wrestling loss

All four Manteo wrestlers were in dual meet wrestling competition against five other schools at an Edenton tournament Saturday, January 5.

In a dual meet against Northeastern, Manteo’s Ryan McOwen won his 182 pound match by pinning Tristen Barr in 4:49. Caleb Maher (113) and Jose Eslava (160) each had forfeit wins in a 48-18 loss to Northeastern.

In action against Pasquotank County, McOwen (182) defeated Kobe Keller with an 18-11 decision, while Eslava (160) and Caleb Carter (220) each had forfeit wins. Pasquotank edged out Manteo 24-15 for the win.

In the dual match against Washington, Ryan McOwen (182) pinned Christian Whitney in 2:15 for the only Manteo victory in that 78-6 loss.

In a match with eight double forfeits, North Pitt was able to hold Manteo scoreless with one decision, two forfeits and three pins for a 33-0 win.

Manteo pulled out two wins against First Flight, but with eight forfeits and three falls to the Nighthawks, it was a 66-12 loss for the Redskins.
