First Flight and Manteo spring sports updates

First Flight sophomore Lucien Steyn won a varsity tennis singles match against a Manteo opponent Friday, March 16, to remain undefeated for the 2018 season and help the Nighthawks post a 9-0 victory over the Manteo team.
Playing at Manteo, Steyn’s 8-1 win was his sixth singles match win this season.
Other First Flight singles winners for the day included Joshua Miller (8-1), Nick Goldbeg (8-1), Robert Peters (8-4), and Ashton Acuna (8-5).
In doubles play Steyn teamed up with Max Stabley to post a 6-1 win, while Goldbeg and Matthew Miller held on for an 8-4 win. In the final doubles for the day, Joshua Miller and Robert Peters took their matches 8-3.
The non-conference win improved the Nighthawks record to 1-1 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference and 3-2 overall. Manteo’s loss leaves the Redskins winless this season at 0-3 overall.
In other sports action Friday. March 16, Manteo lost to Perquimans County 5-3 in varsity baseball and 10-0 in varsity softball play. The Redskin women’s soccer team faired a bit better defeating Cape Hatteras 7-1.
At First Flight the men’s lacrosse team lost an away conference game at Greenville Friday when J.H. Rose came from behind to tie the score and then moved ahead with a fourth period goal for an 8-7 win.
The Nighthawks varsity baseball team fell 3-2 in an extra inning non-conference game against Norfolk Christian and the First Flight varsity soccer team suffered a 2-1 non-conference loss to Norfolk Academy.
In a non-conference home game against Granby the First Flight varsity baseball team lost 8-2 to the Norfolk, Va., visitors.
On Monday, March 19, the Manteo women’s soccer team traveled to Edenton and came home with a 3-0 win over John A. Holmes.
