Nathan D. Sawyer, Sr.

HARBINGER, NC – Nathan Dean Sawyer, Sr. 88,  of Harbinger, died Wednesday, March 28, at his residence.  He was born in Spot, NC on May 21, 1929 to the late Melvin LaSalle Sawyer and Eleanor Gertrude Owens Sawyer and was the husband of Gladys Annette Sawyer of the residence for sixty-five years.  He was retired from the U.S. Army and served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic, worked for the Currituck County Schools, a member of Powells Point Baptist Church, and attended Powells Point Christian Church.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lynette Sawyer; a son, Nathan D. Sawyer, Jr.: two grandchildren, Deanna Given (Jon) and James Jackson Given, Jr. (Amanda); one great grandchild, James Jackson Given, III; an aunt and uncle, Shirley and Rupert Owens; two nieces, Dottie Jordon and Ruth Ann Harris; and a nephew, Mike Harris.  He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Nanette Given; a sister, Wilma Harris; and a nephew, Billy Bohannon.

  A memorial service will be held Monday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Powells Point Christian Church with Chaplain Walter Gallop officiating.  Burial will fol-low in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the residence.
