High school sports review

Among the high school sports events this past week the Manteo varsity soccer team won its April 26, non-conference game against Northeastern 4-0 and the First Flight varsity soccer team won its conference game against Pasquotank County defeating the Elizabeth City team 9-0.

At First Flight the JV baseball team won a non-conference home game against Northeastern Thursday 17-7.

After poor weather conditions forced First Flight to cancel a home track and field meet on Wednesday, the Nighthawks traveled to Currituck High School Thursday, April 27, for a meet under beautiful weather conditions.

In team competition Hertford edged out First Flight in both boys and girls scoring. Team scores for the boys were 1 Hertford 99, 2 First Flight 95, 3 Northeastern 78, 4 Currituck 51 and 5 Hatteras 20.

The team scores for the girls were 1 Hertford 91, 2 First Flight 87, 3 Currituck 75.5, 4 Northeastern 51.5 and 5 Hatteras 6.

Individual results show that Alex Rodman won two girls events for the Nighthawks while Zach Hughes and Skylar Stultz accounted for two first place finishes for the boys team. Hailee Reinke was the only double winner for Currituck.

On Friday the Manteo varsity baseball team won a conference game against John A. Holmes by a score of 2-1 and the Redskin varsity softball team won its conference game against John A. Holmes by a score of 8-3.

Playing at Merry Hill April 30 the Redskin JV softball team fell 15-2 to Lawrence Academy in a non-conference game while the Manteo varsity soccer team closed out the month of April by defeating Pasquotank County 1-0 in a non-conference home game.
