Currituck Knights are 2A state volleyball champs

The Currituck County varsity volleyball team defeated West Davidson 3-0 Saturday, November 3, to become 2A NCHSAA state volleyball champions.

Finishing 10-0 in conference play, the Knights then advanced through all six state tournament rounds against North Johnston, J.F. Webb, South Columbus, South Granville, Wheatmore and West Davidson without losing any matches.

In the tournament final against West Davidson, played in Reynolds Coliseum at NC State University in Raleigh, the Dragons were on the scoreboard first but an undeterred Currituck team was able to recover and pulled ahead for a 25-13 win. After coasting to a 25-9 victory in the second match the Knights held on for a 25-21 win in the third set.

For her championship game efforts, Currituck County senior Kamryn Johnson was named the most valuable player.

Saturday’s win gave Currituck County a 22-6 overall record for the season and its first-ever 2A state volleyball championship. West Davidson finished the season with a 16-2 record in conference play and 26-7 overall.
