First Flight wins first swim meet of the season

The swim season has begun. On Wednesday night, Nov. 20, First Flight, Manteo and Camden County high school swim teams met at the Outer Banks YMCA to compete in their first meet of the season.

The teams came out strong. A combined 299 points for the women’s teams and 271 for the men’s teams were the final scores of the night. FFHS took home the win for both the men’s and women’s teams. The men’s team scored 169 points for FFHS and the women took home 157 points.

MHS placed second in the meet, with a combined score of 135 points for both the men and women’s team. Camden County took third, with 109 overall points.

Bri Wilson of FFHS placed first overall for the women’s 100 meter freestyle and second overall in the women’s 50 meter freestyle, helping her team keep a steady lead. Emmy Trivette also helped by placing in the top three in the 100 meter breaststroke and 100 meter freestyle for the FFHS women’s team.

Will Garman and Noah Goestsch placed first in their respective events, the 200 meter freestyle and 100 meter freestyle for MHS. Sophie Benkusky, Max Janesik and Eva Klauser all placed first in their respective events for Manteo, retaining a solid second place spot throughout the meet.

For Camden County, Paige Strecker washed out the competition in the women’s 100 meter butterfly and the women’s 200 meter IM. She took first in both, with a combined total of 14 points for Camden.

The next meet was scheduled for Friday, Nov. 22 at the Elizabeth City YMCA.
