Fruit workshop set in Currituck

Published 12:30 pm Monday, February 3, 2020

Nothing is better than fresh-picked berries to sweeten up a warm summer’s day. If you’ve ever wanted to grow your own, N.C. Cooperative Extension Currituck Center has the class for you. On Saturday, March 7 from 9 to 11 a.m., the Extension will cover the basics to help you produce your own blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries in their Small Fruit Workshop.

Small fruit is a delicious, nutritional treat, but can be intimidating to grow. Small nuances, from proper pruning of blueberries, to keeping animals out of blackberries, to dealing with strawberry runners, can scare the most veteran gardener from planting small fruit. In this interactive workshop, variety selection, planting tips, pruning, disease identification and treatment  and other general maintenance topics for each of these types of small fruit will be covered. At the end of this workshop you’ll have the knowledge to go home and start your own small fruit garden.

Register for our Small Fruit Workshop on Saturday, March 7 at https://smallfruitworkshop.eventbrite.com. The class is limited to 25 seats. For more information on this or upcoming events, contact Adam Formella, Currituck County Agriculture Extension agent at 252-232-2261 or by email at Adam_Formella@ncsu.edu.
