Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Attention veterans, family members and business owners! There’s a fantastic opportunity coming up that you need to know about and hopefully attend. The Dare County Veterans Advisory Council is proud to announce an event that is worthy of attention and notation, so please save the date.

NC Works Career Center is hosting a very special event – a Dare County Veterans Resources and Job Fair to bring veterans, their family members and business owners/representatives together to introduce job opportunities/employment options in Dare County and these beautiful Outer Banks! What’s so great about it? Everything! It will save you valuable time learning what businesses are eager to acquire additional employees; veterans who might be interested in employment will have a chance to meet employers, make application, submit resumes and discover a broad array of business connections in one setting. If you are interested in full time or even part time work, this is the one stop shop not to miss. The chance to meet a lot of employers in a convenient setting to accommodate bringing you all together is the goal of NC Works and the council. Imagine for a minute not having to search the internet and look for posted flyers on the front of business doors all around our communities to find the potentially “just right” employment opportunity for you.

The awesome folks at NC Works both in Nags Head and the Elizabeth City office are interested in helping connect everyone interested in working with people interested in hiring, however, this event is especially geared to connecting veterans with solid employment.

Marcus Cutrell NC Commerce (NC Works), having attended numerous Dare County Veterans Advisory Council meetings, has expressed sincere interest in their offices/staff wanting to help our veterans and the businesses who desire placements within their company. This great upcoming event co-sponsored by the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council will take place on Thursday, April 30th from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Dare County Center, 950 Marshall C. Collins Dr., Manteo, NC 27954.

In the coming weeks, I’ll update you further about the event itself and as we get closer to the time of the Veterans Resources and Job Fair hopefully I’ll have a list of the business participants who would be onsite at their booth to discuss what type of jobs they need filled, what skills are needed or the experience they would be looking for and I can’t say enough about the prospects for work and working relationships that could come of this.

In addition to all the reps who would want to talk with you (or your family members), the event will also afford you an opportunity to talk to Patty O’Sullivan, Dare County Veteran Service Officer (V.S.O.) about acquiring a misplaced DD-214 or about a potential V.A. claim for service connected medical condition you are dealing with. I also plan to be there to issue the free Dare County Veteran Discount Card; or maybe one of the large variety of other resources that will be available to you will meet other needs you have, answer questions or provide written material that will help you.

I cannot stress enough the value and potential benefit you all will find in attending this gold mine of opportunity. Please consider coming . . . it will be a fun day in a comfortable setting with ample parking and you will be amongst dedicated people who appreciate you, your service to our country and who care very much about things that matter to you and your family.

Again, it’s on Thursday, April 30th, 2020 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. We’ll be looking for you with materials you can take with you. All veterans and family members are encouraged to attend. If you have further questions, please call me at 252-202-2058 or Patty O’Sullivan at 252-475-5604.

Also, if you are a business owner and you are interested in having a table/booth to solicit job opportunities and to hire outstanding veterans, please write to Marcus Cutrell: marcus.cutrell@nccommerce.com or call 252-480-3500. Kenny Kee, a veteran himself at our local office, is all about what is good for fellow veterans and he too would appreciate your interest and support of this very important occasion. Lastly, this will be a day that will bring our treasured veterans together . . . I sure hope we’ll have a chance to see you.

Until next time, be happy . . . be safe . . . and be proud; you (our veterans) are the “cream of the crop” as they say. We love you and your families! Good Lord willing, I’ll be at the event and I’ll looking for you! Stay tuned . . .
