Winter sports awards listed for Cape Hatteras

As with other schools, Cape Hatteras Secondary spring sports – including baseball, softball, track and girls soccer interscholastic contests – have been cancelled until May 18 in a decision by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in accordance with the order to keep public schools closed through Friday, May 15.

The association’s board of directors will consider the possible resumption of spring sports competition and the possibility of holding the state basketball championship.

Cape Hatteras Secondary School finished the winter basketball and cheerleading seasons. Listed below are the special awards presented to student athletes in each sport:

Varsity Boys Basketball – Most Valuable Players: José Cirisa and Dylan Gray. Most Improved Award: Zach Huizing

Varsity Girls Basketball – Most Valuable Player: Lexus Meekins. Coaches’ Awards to Hannah Curcio and Sophie Waterfield.

Varsity Basketball Cheer – Junior Mint Award: Victoria Williams. Rolo Award: Emmi Baker. Laffy Taffy Award: Hope Ruter.

Middle School Boys Basketball – Teammate of the Year Award: Derek Garcia. Defensive Player of the Year Award: David Amortegui

Middle School Girls Basketball – Outstanding Player of the Year: Kylie Philips. Hurricane Award: Abby O’Neal

Middle School Basketball Cheer – Most Dedicated Award: Jassmine Ibarra. Hurricane Award: Tabitha Lewark
