A paving crew with RPC Contracting, Inc., Kitty Hawk, gets ready to work on the roundabout area of the new Rodanthe Bridge. For this initial phrase, the crew will place various layers of asphalt to raise up NC 12 to the height of the roundabout. Called wedging, the asphalt layers will be 12 to 16 inches thick. After the project, NC 12 will remain a two-lane roadway. Motorists will experience a little rise in the pavement. Silt fencing is in place. Prior to the paving, water lines were shifted slightly to the east and a cross culvert was placed. Expect short travel delays while paving work is ongoing. The overall bridge project is about 31% complete.
