Big Rock Board of Directors votes to hold tournament in June

An annual fishing tournament on the North Carolina coast will go on as scheduled in June, officials said.

The Big Rock Board of Directors voted unanimously on Thursday to hold the 62nd Annual Big Rock Tournament on June 8-13, and the 23rd Annual KWLA Tournament on June 6.

In a statement, the board said it has monitored the impacts of COVID-19 and feels the tournaments can proceed safely and responsibly with no social events. Officials are asking participants and spectators to adhere to social distancing and other health precautions.

According to the website, the tournament can be viewed online and plans are in the works for a drive-through dinner for tournament participants.

The tournament in Morehead City draws more than 150 boats every year and awards hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes.
