First Flight track teams win at Currituck

First Flight track teams were at Currituck April 28 for the first high school meet of the season and both boys and girls teams came home with a win. In boys competition, First Flight edged out Currituck 74-66 and teams scored for the girls were First Flight 68 and Currituck 55.

Currituck had two multiple individual winners with Ashley Lindsey taking the girls shot put and girls discus while Lucas Bailey was first in the boys 100 meter sprint and boys long jump.

Hauling in first place points for First Flight boys, Henry Stecher won the 800 meter run and 200 meter spring while Johmar Hernandez was out front in the 111 meter hurdles, high jump and triple jump.

First place finishers for First Flight girls included Lucy Stecher in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, Lydia Sillies in the high jump and triple jump and Mya Salch in the 400 and 200 meter events.

According to First Flight coach Dan Craig, although a toss of 28-8 in the shot put by Sillies put her in second place, it still established a new school record in that event.

First Flight is scheduled to be in action again May 5 for a 4 p.m. meet at the First Flight High School track.
