Memorial Day ceremonies planned in Dare

Memorial Day ceremonies will be held Monday, May 31 at the Southern Shores Cemetery at 9 a.m., Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk at 10 a.m., Manteo Cemetery at 11 a.m., Dare County Veterans Memorial in downtown Manteo (shown) at 11:30 a.m., Kill Devil Hills Veterans Memorial at 12:30 p.m. and Hatteras Methodist Church at 10 a.m.

Services will be performed by the Outer Banks posts of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Town of Nags Head’s Memorial Day ceremony was canceled, however the town released a video ahead of the holiday. “To honor those who died serving in our nation’s armed forces, we developed a video explaining the history and importance of this important day,” stated the town’s newsletter.

“We know a video is not the same as an actual ceremony, but hope you understand.”

The announcement further stated that it will “honor all the men and women of our military at our annual Veterans Day ceremony on November 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. We hope to see you there. Thank you for understanding.”
