The Kill Devil Hills Police Department reported Saturday, June 19 that it has received several calls in the past two days regarding a phone scam targeting residents of the local area.

The KDHPD telephone number (252-449-5337) is being spoofed and the names of real police officers are being used by the scammers. According to KDHPD, the callers are telling people they have a warrant for skipping court and need to pay a fine over the phone.

“Please do not fall for these scams: they originate overseas and it is almost impossible to recover money that is lost to the scammers,” stated KDHPD. “The Kill Devil Hills Police Department will never call you and demand money.”
