Merritt Rickman Camp, 98, of Kill Devil Hills, died June 16, 2021. Mr. Camp was born March 1, 1923, in Winston Salem, NC, to Zebulon Carter Camp and Florence Grover Camp. He was predeceased by sisters Ruth Donahue, Marian Sharper and JoAnn Dillon, first wife Ruth Valerie Cassidy, second wife Florence Randall Perna and stepsons Randy Perna and Raymond Perna.

Merritt joined the US Navy in 1942. He served on the USS Ingraham (DD-694) in the Pacific Theatre of WWII at the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Merritt is survived by sons John Camp and Stephen Camp, stepson Craig Perna, eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Merritt Camp will be held at 11 a.m. on September 16 at Grace Lutheran Church By-The-Sea, Nags Head. He will be interred at Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens in Manteo.
