Scoring four runs in the fifth inning helped Perquimans County varsity baseball team defeat the visiting Manteo team 8-2 Wednesday.

After a scoreless first inning in a non-conference game at Hertford, the home team Pirates scored in the bottom of the second and again in the third and held a two run lead over the Redskins through a scoreless fourth.

Scoring on a series of base hits, Perquimans widened the gap to a 6-0 lead in the fifth.

Manteo was finally on the scoreboard in the sixth when Bryson Sherrod hit a double, sending in Wyn Wheeler and Colin Wyant for the only Redskin runs.
