Manteo girls first, boys second at track meet

The Manteo High School girls track team won Tuesday’s Northeastern High School Mini Invitational track meet and the Manteo boys team finished second.

Earning all available pole vault points, Manteo girls finished the day with 166 points, well ahead of second place Northeastern with 122.

For their part, Manteo boys dominated the pole vault and the 3200 meter field claiming all scoring points in those two events to finish with 130 points, just seven points behind the winner, Northeastern High School.

Manteo coach Melissa Mann said there were several outstanding performances from her team including new school records in the girls high jump and 3200 in addition to a new boys pole vault record.

According to Mann, automatic regional qualifiers include Elle Edwards in the high jump and Meredith Gaskill in the 3200.
