Names of Kill Devil Hills house fire victims released, investigation into cause continues

The names of the victims of the deadly house fire that occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, August 11, 2023 in the 1800 block of North Virginia Dare Trail in Kill Devil Hills have been released.

According to information issued Monday morning, August 14 by Rachel Tackett, public information officer for the Town of Kill Devil Hills, married couple Colleen Cohan, 64, and William Deeg, 68, both of Ashton, Maryland, and Sienna Farr, 13, of Silver Spring, Maryland, were killed in the fire. Injured in the fire were Laura Volk, 48, Sadie Farr, 16, and David Brewer, 55, all of Silver Spring, Maryland. Volk is the mother of Sienna and Sadie Farr. Brewer is Volk’s boyfriend.

“Laura and David are currently being treated in the Burn Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Virginia. They are both in stable condition,” stated Tackett. “Sadie was treated locally at the Outer Banks Hospital and released.”

Tackett also shared that so far, the cause of the fire is undetermined and the investigation remains ongoing.

“Many hearts across the Outer Banks and Maryland communities are left to heal following this tragic incident,” said Tackett. “Please continue to keep everyone affected in your thoughts during this difficult time.”
