Downtown Books will hold a First Friday book signing featuring Hannah Bunn West and her most recent title Save Our Sand Dunes, a children’s picture book with illustrations by local artist Larry McCarter and Ann Marshall Runyon, on Friday, May 3 in the store at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in downtown Manteo.

West’s book, co-authored by Ann-Cabell Baum and published by the North Carolina Office of Archives and History, brings to life the efforts in the 1970s by Carolista Baum to save Jockey’s Ridge from development.

“Carolista relentlessly mobilized the community and lobbied local and state leaders until it was designated a State Park in 1975,” noted the event announcement. “Hannah Bunn West grew up on the Outer Banks and is passionate about sharing its history, advocating for its people, and protecting its natural wonders.”
