Planning for the 2020 Scuppernong River Festival is getting underway and organizers invite interested individuals to join the planning committee. “We are always interested in new ideas and new activities to make the festival bigger and better,” stated Rhett White, co-chairman of the annual event.

Anyone wishing to participate in planning the festival should attend at the planning meeting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 27 at the Town of Columbia Municipal Building located at 103 Main Street. The committee will meet monthly until the festival takes place.

There are several committee responsibilities that volunteers can fill including logistics, arranging for music and entertainment, concessions, arranging for and supervising children’s rides and attractions, staging food, arts, crafts and merchandise vendors and assisting with the Main Street Parade.

The Scuppernong River Festival will be held on Saturday, October 10 along the waterfront and streets of Columbia. The day-long street festival begins with a Main Street Parade, includes fireworks at nightfall and concludes with a concert on the Tyrrell County Courthouse steps.

Whether it is music, entertainment, rides for children, helicopter rides, food and craft vendors, parade or water activities, organizational help is needed. For more information or to share ideas for the festival, call 252-796-2781.
