COVID-19 update from Dare County

In Dare County, 15 people have tested positive for COVID-19, as of April 13, 2020, at 12:30 p.m.

On Sunday, April 12, two more cases at Peak Resources were announced, bringing Dare’s total cases to 15.

Last Thursday, COVID-19 cases at Peak Resources, a skilled nursing center in Nags Head, numbered four, the original case plus three more found with mass testing half of the folks at the facility. Another round of mass testing was completed Thursday, April 9, with specimens sent to the state lab Friday morning. Results were received Sunday with two more people identified with positive tests.

Dare County’s Bulletin No. 41 reports that of the 15 individuals, nine have recovered/or are asymptomatically cleared (meaning they are seven days post testing with no symptoms), four are asymptomatic (meaning they have not experienced any COVID-19 symptoms), one is recovering at home and one has died.

This is the fourth week that Dare County has been focused on mitigation measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

We are all in this together, and together we will get through this.”

Due to inclement weather, particularly high winds, Dare County Public Works suspended trash collection at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. For routes that were not completed, drivers will resume pick up Tuesday morning from where they left off. The areas affected for residential collection include Colington, Kitty Hawk, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras. Residential and commercial collection will resume Tuesday, April 14, as well in the following areas: Manteo, Wanchese, Manns Harbor, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon. Commercial collection will also occur in Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras, Kitty Hawk and Colington.
