August 30, 1931 – July 21, 2020

Lancy Montgomery Cahoon, 88, formerly of Engelhard and most recently a resident at Roanoke River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

Mr. Cahoon was born in Beaufort County to the late Closs Ethan and Sunie Bell Williams Cahoon, on August 30, 1931. He married the former Mira Louise Watson on June 13, 1957, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Cahoon proudly served his country, first in the United States Army and then for twenty-two years in the United States Air Force as a Tech Sergeant. He served in the Korean War. After returning, he worked at Hyde Supply and Gilbert Gibbs Store.

Surviving are three daughters, Debra Gibbs (Billy) of Engelhard, NC, Wanda Cahoon-Berry (Jeffrey) and Twylia K. Cahoon of Fairfield, NC; and two sons, Gregory M. Cahoon (Renee) of Mountville, SC and John K. Cahoon of Pinetown, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren:  Josh, Justin, Jessica, Jeremy, Darien and Scott, and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Anna Carawan and his brothers and sisters: Henry Cahoon, J.B. Cahoon, Iris Dail Williams, Leona Hardison, and Mildred Hodges.

A private graveside service will be held at the family plot in the Fulford Cemetery, Engelhard.
