Proposed Dare Schools capital improvement plan for five years

The Dare County Schools capital improvement plan was discussed at the Board of Education retreat held in late March. It is an item on the April 17, 2023 board meeting agenda.

For fiscal year 2024, the proposed capital improvement plan for Dare County Schools is listed at $2.045 million. Dare County has committed $1.86 million. The proposal is $185,000 over budget.

First Flight High: roof replacement, $600,000, first of two phases

First Flight Elementary: air handler replacement, $135,000

Manteo High: track resurface and configure, $300,000; chiller replacements $210,000, first of three

Manteo Middle: south wing roof, $300,000

Cape Hatteras Secondary: roof replacement, $200,000

Cape Hatteras Elementary: playground pour-in-place path, $150,000

District: HVAC controls hardware, $60,000; playground equipment, $90,000

Seven projects are proposed for fiscal year 2025 totaling $2.243 million, which is $347,500 over that committed by Dare County.

In fiscal year 2026, another seven projects are proposed with a cost of $1,672,500, which is $412,500 under the county’s committed $2.085 million.

For fiscal year 2027, six projects are proposed for $2.025 million. The county has set aside $1.475 million which is $550,000 less that proposed by the school board.

In fiscal year 2028, total requested is $2.02 million. The county has $1.912 million, short by $107,950.

The five years of the school board’s proposed capital improvement plan totals $10.005 million.
