Insurance companies request homeowners rate increase for mobile home policies

The North Carolina Rate Bureau has filed a request to increase homeowners insurance rates for mobile home policies with the N.C. Department of Insurance.

The NCRB, which represents insurance companies and is not a part of the N.C. Department of Insurance, has requested an overall statewide average of 19 percent increase for MH-C (casualty) policies and an overall statewide average of 19.9 percent increase for MH-F (fire) policies. Both MH-C and MH-F programs provide property and liability coverage.

Unlike standard homeowners programs, both the MH-C and MH-F programs include flood coverage. The two programs are similar. However, the MH-F program provides coverage for a broader range of perils. The requested effective date for the increase is Feb. 1, 2020.

  • Written public comments should be mailed to Mary Sanders, Administrative Specialist, 1201 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, C.27699-1201 by March 20.

All public comments will be shared with the NCRB.  If N.C. Department of Insurance officials do not agree with the requested rates, they will either be denied or negotiated with the NCRB. If a settlement cannot be reached, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey will call a hearing within 50 days.
