Personal best performances proved to be the theme for Cape Hatteras at Nash Central High School’s Bulldog Invitational track and field meet on March 23. By day’s end, six of the school’s athletes turned in a total of seven personal best marks.

Providing two personal best performances of his own, distance runner Shanklin Austin led the Hurricanes record attack with a boys 1600 meter run time of 5:26.85 for 22nd place and then covering the 3200 in 11:51.89 in for 13th place.

Competition in the girls events saw Avery O’Neal get in a best-ever 53-00 toss in the discus and Jorah Midgette burn an :18.16 in the 100 meter sprint. Both girls finished 21st in their respective events.

Earning the only Cape Hatteras points of the day, junior speedster Dylan Gray finished sixth in the 400 meter finals for three points. Although his time of :55.64 was the fastest clocking this season it was short of his May 2018  time of :53.00 set at the NCHSAA 1A East Regional meet.
