Van, combine collision results in serious injury

A patient was airlifted after an accident involving a van and a combine yesterday, April 18. Units from Currituck Fire-EMS were dispatched to the 1400 block of Caratoke Highway (Rt. 168) in the Moyock area of Currituck County at 6:24 p.m.

First responders arrived to find a collision between a van and a combine involving 10 people – nine in the van and one operating the combine. The front seat passenger of the van sustained major facial injuries. That person was transported via Nightingale Air Ambulance to the trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in serious condition.

The Moyock Volunteer Fire Department, Crawford Township Volunteer Fire Department, Currituck County Sheriff’s Department and North Carolina State Highway Patrol also responded.

The accident is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
