A crash on the main highway in Kitty Hawk Monday afternoon led to the death of a local pastor as well as charges for a Kitty Hawk man.

On September 23 at approximately 1 p.m., a vehicle driven by Paul C. Muick, 88, of Kitty Hawk, crossed the center line in the 5200 Block of North Croatan Hwy. in Kitty Hawk and collided with a motorcycle operated by Donald B. Teears age 61, of Kill Devil Hills. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

“Dare County First Responders worked tirelessly to save Mr. Teears, unfortunately he succumbed to the injuries he received from the crash at the scene,” said Kitty Hawk Police Department’s Chief of Police Joel C. Johnson.

Muick received minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene by emergency personnel. Neither alcohol nor impairment were contributing factors in the cause of the crash, according to KHPD.

Muick has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.

“The Kitty Hawk Police Department would like for everyone to keep the family of Mr. Teears in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” said Johnson.

Teears served as chaplain for the Kitty Hawk Fire Department and Dare EMS and was senior pastor at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church.
